2020 CHAPELLE DES BOIS ROUGE

CHIROUBLES GAMAY - GRAND CRU

$20.00 BTL.

A NEAL ROSENTHAL IMPORT!  On every visit to NYC I would make a pilgrimage to Rosenthal’s shop on the upper east side.  In my opinion, he is the absolute best wine importr – period!

Located in the heart of the Fleurie cru, Domaine de la Chapelle des Bois comprises nine hectares of vines, primarily in Fleurie, but augmented by smaller holdings in Chiroubles and Morgon. Rosenthal began working with this charming traditional domaine in the early 2000s with Chantal and Eric Coudert-Appert, the seventh generation to work the land and produce wine here. The vineyard holdings of Domaine de la Chapelle des Bois extend across the Fleurie boundary into Chiroubles, where they work a small parcel of 50-year-old Gamay planted in granite.

Exuberant blackberry and black raspberry in confitured and distilled form are threaded with lilac inner-mouth floral perfume, striking notes of blood orange rind, nutmeg, toasted pecan, blond tobacco, and subtle hints of game and forest floor. Silken in texture, sappy and pungent, this finishes with an exhilaratingly animated exchange of fruit, flower, and mineral elements. This is an absolute stunning wine at any price & possibly the best Gamay I have ever experienced.
